Road.cc has become unusably slow
It's been getting slower and slower to load pages over the last month or so but now it is almost completely unuseable. For instance just to create this post took more than 6 minutes waiting. If it carries on like this I shall have to think seriously about my subs.

eBikeTips and off-road.cc still not working on Chrome Version 118.0.5993.89 - however they do seem to work on edge.
Are there still issues with off-road.cc and ebiketips as I can't get on either.
I had exactly the same problem. Cleared the cache/cookies for road.cc on my browser and it seems to work now.

So *touches wood* we should be fully back to normal now! It turns out it was a server issue all along, very frustrating it's took this long to resolve and apologies to everyone once again. Thanks for bearing with us, I'll admit some furniture of mine might have been damaged while trying to work on the super slow version of the site last week...

I clicked to open this forum post but got a HTTP 502 error. Appropriate I guess.
The new WYSIWYG editor box is really really bad in terms of responsiveness - also missing some functionality.
That road.cc has been having issues for so many days now suggests an "upgrade" without any roll-back plan/ability, nor with any incremental deployment + a/b testing ability. Which is... not wise in this day and age.
I think it's time to call in some experts to sort out the issue. I'm assuming that it's the backend that's struggling and judging by the size of the site, it'd be cheap enough to run an in-memory database to handle it all.
Is it expertise or £££ needed?
Usually both. You can just throw modern hardware at an issue and not need so much expertise, or you can hire an expert to identify the actual bottleneck, but that also costs £££
100%. I'm more of a front-end guy, so I have no idea exactly what's happened, but there's front-end/CSS weirdness that's started happening around the same time too.
Is the whole site self-hosted or is it hosted by a third party? If it's the latter, do they not have SLAs? I've never known issues like this persist this long, even when I’ve had issues in SMEs. This is honestly a little embarrassing now.
Its amazing that they are not haemorrhaging money right now. If I was an advertiser I wouldn't be paying them a penny at the moment because the site is so unusable. Must be absolutely killing their revenue and yet here were are, weeks later with no fix.

Its amazing how some freeloader who doesnt contribute anything to the site thinks their opinion counts a stuff whilst doing nothing to support it.

By their own admission, Road.cc generates vastly more revenue from ADs than from subscribers, so if you visit this site without an ad-blocker, you're contributing and your opinion is perfectly valid.
Besides, they've said in their statement that the issue is at the application level, not the hardware. This is a failry simple site, so it's a little embarassing that the issue is still persisting after three weeks.
How do you know that they are not a subscriber or allow ads?
Posting on here helps too as it is a stat for potential advertisers.
Judging by the ads I get served, I don't know how many advertisers are making deliberate, human, decisions to advertise here, as opposed to just winning indiscriminate eyeball space.

It's been getting on for three weeks now, surely a key part of a business that produces content to deliver via the internet is the capability of delivering content via the internet? I don't think I ever could have got away with letting a problem like this go on for so long.
It's not the regulars moaning that road.cc need to be concerned about, it's when the Google rankings drop off a cliff due to constant crawler errors, the ad revenue will go with it.
