Mission Statement

DC Sentinels provides gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) basketball players and our friends opportunities to participate in sporting, recreational, social, and charitable activities that promote acceptance and visibility of the GLBT athletics community and create lasting relationships between people from all walks of life.

To meet this objective DC Sentinels strives to promote a commitment to excellence, innovation, integrity and quality in everything we do. In 2008, we hosted a NGBA sponsored tournament in the District of Columbia that brought in hundreds of players from across the United States who competed in the DC Sentinels Capital Classic Basketball Tournament. We have participated in tournaments nationally and internationally. DC Sentinels is a member of Team DC and the National Gay Basketball Association (NGBA). Founded in the 1980's.

On March 26,2010 Tim Francis was inducted into the Hall of Fame which presently resides in Chicago. Tim is the second person from DC who has been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

DAY 4 OF GAMES

Day 4 - Beat the french team, loss to SF Rockdogs - Finished 4 and 2 Playoff Round 1 tomorrow. Day 3 of competition.... In our first game of the day we play the Men from "Down Under" the Aussies (woof). No doubt the are the most physical team we have played and without Wade playing I'm concerned... Also the TEAM'S mindset is unknown due to the lost to the ROCK DOGs and a few in house concerns... I have no voice im horse and can hardly talk.... With their style of physical play they got our attention pretty quickly - First it was G who was sent flying out the lane to the floor,,, then it was Des who was intentionally and purposely fouled by their big man... with Sherod stepping to Des's defense both benches cleared me included.... to our credit as well as theirs, cool heads prevailed... and what i felt was a very good show of class and sportsmanship the guys from "down under" voluntarily refused to put their big man back in the game.... This was exactly the type of game we needed... the guys responded as a unit on defense and was able to match the physical play with finess and speed.... scoring if i remember correctly was evenly distributed across the board..... MAJOR SHOUT OUTs to DES G and CHRIS for their aggressive D and for setting the tone not just for the game but for the entire DAY... Chris was a beast played with heart and passion like ive never seen before.... the final score was 46-19.... we will be joining the guys from Australia for dinner at 7pm... they are really good group of guys who have extended an open invite to us to visit them in the BIG DOWN UNDER anytime... oh yes im there!!! GAME 2 against a team from france... was more about us imposing our will and controlling the pace of the game then anything else... Sheerod and Clarence both did just what i asked of them in shutting down and taking the ball out of the hands of their point guard... again G - DES and CHRIS did major work on the boards and allowed us play or zone defense in attack mode... we held them under 10 points in the first half and a good part of the 2nd half.... the TEAM motto has been "ITS ABOUT BUSINESS!!! - DONT TAKE IT PERSONALLY" thanks G for the words and postive intense feedback you give us all... Mile was the man - who jump started us... i should say "jumper" started us.... I started Miles at the begining of the second half- what did i do that for, he wasted no time getting his feet set and letting it ripe 3 - 3s in a row and few 2s the boy was in a zone and finished with 16 points and alot of hustle....Chris played big in all parts of HIS game being physical -reboundiing and intensity and finished with 8 points and countless rebounds... keep it up Chris-- its hard to tell you what each person did but i can tell you everyone did there part and played their role.... we still have not played our best basketball as a TEAM but i can honestly say each time we have taken the court we are getting closer to that game when we ALL will be playing as 1 with all systems working at full capcity.... right now we are where we need to be....no worries the guys are representing you well.... Lets keep it movin!!!!
