Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

Wasn't that Mike Graham saying you can grow concrete though? So it might be made of vegetable products?

On a less ranty note, I do love one of the comments below the piece: "" It became apparent he was under the influence of alcohol. Officers could smell alcohol on his breath and he had been using his indicators".... School boy error that for any BMW driver. I am surprised he knew where they were.... it took me years to find them on my car!

Well I never - I always thought they were merely decorative on BMWs and Audis

You are warned when you collect a new BMW not to use them as it confuses other drivers. I tend to indicate left when I am turning right just for a laugh as it double confuses the poor people who can't afford German cars.

I guess even Audi and BMW drivers have to keep at least one hand on the wheel.

I thought Audi and BMW drivers could drive hands free as they are able to steer with the dick on their forehead?

There is a high level of depression at the BMW factories, with the staff that fit indicators. They know their job is utterly pointless. Even replacement robots have spontaneously blown fuses.

"A four year ban"
This seems to me to be a reasonable punishment! I am mortified to find myself failing to condemn the magistrates

Why are people waiting at a bus stop "pedestrians"? Were they walking around to stay warm?

It's a fair point:

7Interference with use or operation of key national infrastructure

(1)A person commits an offence if—

(a)they do an act which interferes with the use or operation of any key national infrastructure in England and Wales, and

(b)they intend that act to interfere with the use or operation of such infrastructure or are reckless as to whether it will do so.

[…]

(6)In this section “key national infrastructure” means—

(a)road transport infrastructure […]

They don't mean the kind of activists who do kill and maim people every day (but never mean it) though, they're concerned about the ones who don't kill or injure any people (but do mean to disrupt)!

2000 posts  Wow! Please keep those stories coming.

The brief is quite narrow, and nine out of 10 stories we see follow a similar pattern - the one in 10 is where a driver manages to do something extraordinary.

Although we tend to feature stories where there is no serious injury, I’m getting to the “small wonder, eh?” stage when it comes to the ever-present “thank goodness no-one was standing/walking there”.  A world that no longer feels safe.

Local journalism is under such terrible pressure in the C21st - I hope it has found a level now that will keep it going - else what record will there be of these goings-on? So in general, I’m grateful to local journalists. I have a soft spot for the nonsense that comes out when nothing is happening on a Tuesday morning in Somerset.

I sometimes include the “there were and sirens everywhere, it was chaos” comments the articles pick up from bystanders and social media.  The 999 call that starts “There’s been a crash near the chip shop on the London road” needs so much unpicking before you can mobilise any resources.  That's again in part why we need local journalists.

The ennui - most people are thoroughly conditioned to accepting the daily carnage on our roads - so long as it happens to someone else, of course. Somehow it’s all a price worth paying for all the amazing advantages cars may once upon a time have brought those able to run one. But that’s another story.

Car crashes over bank and ploughs into block of flats in Devon

The car drove over the bank and into the side of the building causing structural damage to the ground floor flat

The driver of the car, a resident in his 80s, was not seriously injured in the crash, but did go to hospital to be checked over. It caused the internal walls to crack throughout the kitchen of the block of flats in the Laira area of the city.
